All of a sudden that 6 year old boat with new sail and new daggerboard isnt looking like the bargain he thought it was. They find that to race it they now need a new sail and possibly other parts depending on how cheap the previous owner was. The other issue is that you have people buying second hand boats that come with illegal sails and sometimes foils and other parts now too and they believe that have bought a Laser™ when they have actually bought a knockoff, the hull and some parts may be original but the boat is not a class legal laser. They could start their own fleet and set up a new modified laser class and race other like minded individuals. They can sail, just not against other lasers. Even the guy who doesn't race benefits from the class association, if you could do what you like with the boat and the rig they would be almost worthless after a few years like many other classes are.Īnother thing that isn't right is people turning up to race with knock off sails and then getting upset that they cant sail. Boats are worth more because they are the same. Lasers have great resale value and one of the reasons for that is that it is a strong one design class. (Don't get me started on that as I would have to go over to PA.) APS gives you all the same for the same price but I would have to drive to Annapolis to pickup and pay our stupid 6% sales tax. And no I don't work or have an affiliation with Intensity just think it is a good deal.

Our club (SMSA in Solomons, MD) is hosting a Dinghy Regatta at the end of September, we will have a Laser OD class but it is not a sanctioned event so our PRO wrote the following into the NOR. I think we need a new supplier of class legal sails.īut until you get off your good for nothing lazy asses and change the rules.

Of course remember.my suggestion would be to use the $400 persail as a motivator and get the rule changed. where teh fuck are those boats? Hint: They don't ahve a huge international class association that keeps fucking shit for brains with bullshit home made equipment the fuck off the course. Try racing US1 or Force Five, or banshee, or Copperhead, or OK Dinghy. You have a boat that is worth thousands more because of the rules and the class and you don't want to play the same game that made your boat worth a damn.or made teh game you want to play even exist.

You assholes with your off brand shit amaze me. if you don't want to play lasers get the fuck off the course. That includes cheapskate tightwad lazy fuckers who think it is OK to bring a god only knows who built the fucking thing to local laser races. Sail a real laser or get the fuck off the course. Remember. My suggestion.Get a new sailmaker approved who does not sell his sails through teh rip off builder process. Rig it as a class legal laser or get the fuck off the course. Unless you care enough to get the rule changed, you need to spend the $400 until you get off your lazy ass and do something about it. Generaly I am one of teh biggest critics of teh $400 rip off.
